About Susan Shaw
Susan Shaw is a British installation artist whose work is deeply influenced by her extensive travels and adventurous spirit. Inspired by journeys to tropical destinations like Barbados, cycling expeditions across Europe, and sailing along the Croatian coast, Shaw channels her experiences into ambitious, thought-provoking art. Her practice explores the intersection of consumerism and religion, often using large-scale installations to engage viewers in critical reflection.
Shaw is particularly known for monumental projects such as ‘Lourdes’ and ‘Virgin Archives,’ which featured 100 statues of the Virgin Mary cast from four tonnes of concrete and exhibited in Rochester Cathedral. These works highlight her passion for challenging traditional boundaries and creating immersive environments that provoke dialogue about faith, commerce, and cultural memory.
